With declining TV ratings the league was experimenting with new ways to entice the home audience to tune in!!! Replacing the coin toss with a new way to determine kickoffs had become very popular!!!! Whichever team received the load also received the kickoff!!! The crowd loved it and the referees were also enjoying it very much!!!
